Maria E. Flores, Outreach and Education Coordinator and a 26-veteran of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, will bring to life the unique employment issues faced by diverse communities by weaving together real case stories, statistics and studies. Maria will provide an EEOC update on a wide-range of EEO issues - disability and religious discrimination and accommodation; immigrant workers; discriminatory language policies; double-edged sword faced by older workers; gender issues faced by women including pregnancy discrimination; and hire/selection criteria which may disadvantage applicants and employees (e.g., testing, criminal records). Our agency insider will also provide tips and best practices for employers.

Alonzo Kelly presents: We Can’t Talk About This At Work! The Myth Of Banned Dialogue When It Matters Most

There are some conversations that have been traditionally banned from the workplace. Those topics include, but are not limited to; Race, Religion, and Politics. The thought is that if we ban those topics from the workplace, we will be able to avoid the conflict of disagreement. The opposite however is in fact true. By not learning how to engage in these very topics, we create workspaces that serve as incubators for personal isolation at best and discrimination at worst. Authentic relationships are rooted in honest, respectful, and bold dialogue. We are at our best when we invite, rather than avoid, those conversations that matters most.
